BED AND BREAKFAST AT HERNES

Hernes is a fascinating house that twists and turns through the ages, a little Elizabethan here, some Georgian there and a touch of Victorian and Edwardian for good measure.
From the panelled hall with its open fireplace and piano you ramble into the heart of the house and its large welcoming rooms. The bedrooms (all on the first floor) are spacious and the bathrooms are lovingly equipped. This has been a much cherished home to the same family for five generations and its traditions are treated with respect, particularly the Sunday breakfast - always at 8.30am with juice, fruit and cereals (porridge in the winter months) followed often by kedgeree and always boiled eggs and toast.
In the main house there is accommodation available for up to six people in twin or double bedded rooms either with en suite bathrooms or nominated private bathrooms. In The Shooting Lodge there is an additional twin/double bedded suite where a single bed may be available on the galleried landing should guests be travelling with a teenage child.
The garden still retains remnants of the original Victorian layout but has been brought into the twenty-first century so that the owners can manage and nurture it themselves with occasional help from outside professionals when necessary. It is a gentle garden, essentially a place for quiet contemplation from a walk in the wild garden to the labyrinth and the pink garden to the hornbeam walk, and this year we hope to see work start on the water garden.
